Alleges that Shrinivas Pawar has illegally occupied his shops and that the cops are not acting on his complaints due to political pressure; Shrinivas’s son Yugendra says allegations baseless
A city-based businessman has petitioned the Bombay High Court alleging that the brother and family members of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar have forcibly taken possession of commercial properties in Andheri West that he claims to have purchased and occupied since 2018.
In his writ petition, Ismail Kadar Khan, who also has Bollywood connections, claims to have paid Rs 3.5 crore under two Memoran-dums of Understanding (MOUs) signed in 2014 for the properties, but says the sale was not completed and the property was later mortgaged for a higher loan, while he was forcefully prevented from entering the premises where goods worth Rs 1.5 crore belonging to him remain locked. Khan’s petition says he was approached in 2014 by Shrinivas Anandrao Pawar and his wife, who were on friendly terms with him. He claims they told him they were directors of Moreshwar Trading Co Pvt Ltd and SAP Holding & Leasing Co Pvt Ltd, which owned four adjoining commercial properties in Versova Shree Darshan Cooperative Housing Society in Andheri (West).
Khan states that after negotiations, he agreed to purchase the properties for ₹3,37,50,000 each, and executed two separate MOUs on 27 May 2014. He claims to have paid ₹3.50 crore through bank transactions, believing that the pre-existing loan on the property with GS Mahanagar Co-op Bank needed to be cleared before registration.
He says the sellers repeatedly assured him that the transaction would be formalised after obtaining a No Objection Certificate from the bank. Meanwhile, he was granted possession in writing in 2018, following which he started using the place to store goods for his business.
However, in 2023, while waiting for the final agreement, Khan alleges that the owners demanded additional sums, compelled him under pressure to hand over two cheques totalling Rs 6.5 crore, but still did not execute the sale deed. However, the payment did not finally get cleared.
When Khan made a few inquiries, he found that the pre-existing loan on the property had been cleared and a fresh loan worth Rs 13.75 crore had been taken from Janta Sahakari Bank Ltd, Pune, under a registered mortgage document dated 30 September 2023.
According to the petition, on 17 August 2025, the Deputy CM’s brother allegedly arrived with “goons”, broke the locks and took control of the premises, while goods worth Rs 1.5 crore belonging to Khan were kept inside. The petition states that security guards from both sides are now stationed at the location, and Khan himself is barred from entering after a notice was served to him.
However, the Pawar family has completely rubbished his claim. “That man is a cheat. He took a small shop seven years ago and never paid the full amount. We waited all these years because he kept promising that he would clear the balance, but he has not paid up till now. He is unnecessarily creating problems, and his background is questionable, something we were unaware of earlier,” said Yugendra Pawar, son of Shrinivas.
Khan alleges that instead of registering his complaint, the police “sat tight” and refused to intervene citing “political pressure” and even warned him that he would be arrested if he attempted entry. He further claims that the officers privately told him him that the matter involved the Deputy Chief Minister and they had been instructed not to act.
Though the petition alleges political pressure, it should be noted that Shrinivas is not in active politics and had supported uncle Sharad against brother Ajit when the NCP split. He dubbed Ajit’s move to field his wife Sunetra against Supriya Sule in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls “a mistake”.
When Shinivas’s son Yugendra got married on November 30, Ajit Pawar was not present. Likewise, reports said Shrinivas skipped Ajit’s son Jai’s wedding in Bahrain last week.
Khan’s The petition argues that police refusal amounts to dereliction of duty and violation of constitutional rights, as he has lodged complaints with Versova and Oshiwara Police Stations, as well as letters addressed to the Police Commissioner, Reserve Bank of India and Janta Sahakari Bank.
The petitioner states, “I have been paying the electricity bills and bearing other expenses related to the property for years, yet the seller’s intention has now changed. I have been duped — he is neither confirming my possession nor returning my money, and is instead allegedly using political pressure to sell the same property to someone else, even going so far as to advertise it in newspapers.”
Seeking interim relief while his petition is heard, Khan has requested the High Court to order an independent agency to investigate the alleged illegal dispossession, threats of arrest, and misuse of power. He argues that without judicial intervention, he risks irreparable loss due to the value of the property, his goods inside the premises, and the alleged political influence blocking police action.
